Palazzo Bìscari is the most important noble palace in Catania, located in the Civita district and a jewel of Sicilian Baroque.
The building was built at the behest of Prince Ignazio Paternò Castello III Prince of Biscari (d. 1699) immediately after the earthquake that destroyed Catania in 1963.
His son Vincenzo (1685-1749) IVth prince continued the work and his nephew Ignazio Vth (1714-1786) completed it, dedicating large spaces to the establishment of an archaeological, numismatic and naturalistic museum open to all scholars.
Among the famous visitors to the palace we remember above all the writer Johann Wolfgang Goethe who, during his trip to Italy, was received by the prince of Bìscari on 3 May 1787, shortly after the death of his father Ignazio.
Today, in addition to being the residence of the Biscari family, it represents a splendid setting for prestigious events of a social and cultural nature.
