Riflessi Acireale Palace Suites: six boutique suites in a restored palazzo, in the old town of Acireale.

The suites occupy a palazzo in Acireale, a Baroque town on Sicily’s Ionian coast, between Catania and Taormina, with Mount Etna rising behind it. Decorated ceilings and patterned floors have been preserved; contemporary furniture lives alongside them.

A palazzo, in Italian, is a historic town building rather than a royal residence. The scale is intimate: closer to a private house than to a large hotel.

Mind and Light are two-room suites: one room for the double bed, the other a sitting area with a sofa bed, for reading or working. On a longer stay, it is the difference between a bedroom and a home.

Rooms and suites

Mind, Twin and Water are on the first floor; Light, Butterfly and Moon on the second. In Italy the first floor is one level above the street, what Americans call the second floor. Every room has a private bathroom and the amenities listed above.

Mind

The suite where the Riflessi project began: two rooms, one with a double bed and one with a sofa bed, plus space to read, write or work.

Twin

Two Italian “one-and-a-half” beds, a size between a single and a double, make the layout flexible. Ask for them apart or pushed together.

Water

The room with its own whirlpool bath.

Light

Gilded decoration runs through its two rooms: one with a double bed, one with a sofa bed, with space for reading and working.

Butterfly

The name comes from the shapes of wings that appear in the room’s mirrors. The two one-and-a-half beds can be set apart or together.

Moon

A room with a double bed. The name comes from its private terrace: after dark, go outside and search the sky for the moon.

Location

Acireale (province of Catania), historic centre.

Piazza Duomo and the Basilica of San Sebastiano are within walking distance. Acireale is a town of Baroque churches and wrought-iron balconies, and its Carnival floats are famous throughout the island.

Catania Fontanarossa Airport is the main gateway to this side of Sicily, and transfers can be arranged on request. For Etna, Taormina or the coast, a car or a private driver gives you more freedom. Like many Italian historic centres, Acireale has a limited-traffic zone (ZTL) with camera-controlled access: if you are arriving by car, say so in your request, so that access and parking can be checked for your dates.

Before you send your request

Tell us when you would like to stay, how many people are travelling and which room interests you. For children, include their ages; add your preferences on beds and any needs regarding access, breakfast or transfers.

The proposal for your stay will state the room, the number of guests allowed, the total price, the breakfast arrangement and the terms of confirmation and cancellation. Nothing is booked until you have read it and accepted it.
